I am not a professional sound engineer by any means and I am really just learning about mastering. I have recorded an acoustic guitar with a 2 mic setup (12th fret and bridge). I mixed it the way I liked it and got the volume to about -4 or -5 dB before going to mastering. During mastering I used a limiter with the ceiling set at -1 dB and raised the threshold until it was a good volume. After exporting I tried playing it on my phone and at full volume it sounds very distorted! I did some research, and cut some frequencies in the 180-240 range to reduce any resonance with the speakers. It sounded a little better through my TV speaker, but not on my phone. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong! If anybody has any advice to make it sound better on a phone speaker (since that is how the majority of people listen) I would greatly appreciate it!!
Additional info: I am using Studio One 4 Artist, I also have Ozone 9 elements that I have been using for the mastering phase.
