Anyone know of a good Japanese curry recipe? Not pre-made curry-blocks/sauce

As the title says;

I used to live in Japan and Korea where I often used the Vermont curry blocks. They made a really nice Japanese style curry.

I've found this attempt to try and replicate them, but comments seem mixed.

Does anyone have a good receipe?

No curry blocks/sauces please, unless you know a UK source. I can't find a single site that sells them for a reasonable price here in the UK. I found 1 type, which was still kind of pricey in Waitrose but it's not a type I like much (S&B Golden curry).
