I've lived in Maryland 95% of my life. I've recently moved to Idaho.
I'm kind of a picky eater, and Chinese food is my favorite food. Sadly, the Chinese food in the west differs a bit too much for my tastes. (There was also a particular chinese place in Maryland, called Little China that was my favorite, and even other places in the state differed from it. In particular, their Pork Fried Rice was a dark brown, instead of the yellow varieties from other places in Maryland, or the whites in Idaho. I suspect it was in large part to it being a very greasy pork fried rice.) The biggest difference is probably the Egg Rolls. Ugh, I do not like the weird giant super crunchy Egg Rolls over here.
So, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help point me in the direction of some recipes they think are really good approximations of "East Coast" Chinese food.
Things I'd like to be able to recreate
- Pork Fried Rice (Dark Brown)
- Beef and Broccoli
- Shrimp/Chicken Chow Mein
- Shrimp/Pork Egg Rolls
- Sesame Chicken
- Orange Chicken
- General Tso's
- Teriyaki Chicken with fried rice (like you'd find at the mall)
- Bourbon Chicken with fried rice (like you'd find at the mall)
Thank you for looking, and any help you might provide.
Edit: I'm looking around on my own, still, and this looks pretty damn close to my kind of Pork Fried Rice.
