Cleansing gifted jewellery?

Most of my jewellery that's not a cheap coloured metal are gifts from my parents, usually symbolising their wishes of good luck for me. This is quite good stuff: gold or silver, crystals etc. Will cleansing them remove the charge from the wish? My mum's family is a bit witchy and I feel her wishes charged the presents but I also read a lot that jewellery should be cleansed. Can it be that my parents' energy made it into amulets anyway?
