Not sure if this is the right subreddit but wanted to ask.

Im 28m and after putting a majority of my money the last 10 years into the stock market I want to diversify. Ill preface this by saying I dont mind if its not the absolute best percentage out there ever, so Im not sure hung up over getting a 8% return versus 9%.

My spouse is foreign and we werelooking at investing there (Portugal). There is a hotel that is selling rooms with a bank behind them (standard 100k with 20% down and a 4.5% interest rate). There return on other rooms are between 4-5% per year. Doing the math say 4-5k putting 20k is nice but obviously factor the mortgage in and... basically at 0.

My question is does anyone know of the tax benefits in Portugal that would make this worth it? Or is it just a bad deal all around? Thanks!
