Killing a Legendary Animal

I happened to find a Marble Fox in Colter. When i killed it. I was skinning it. 3 wolves came around me and started attacking me. Right when i got the pelt. I later on got killed. I killed the last wolf. The legendary pelt disappeared after my respawn. I was pissed. My question is. Does an animal have a cool down as respawning? I change servers couple times in private lobby and doesn’t seem to come. Anyone enlighten me about the possibilities?
