Upgrading HBX Protector Transmitter

Hi all,
Just beginning with the hobby and since I'm on a budget I got an HBX Protector (newer version). It's a fun buggy and I'm loving it, but the transmitter feels cheap.
I'd like to upgrade the transmitter. I've tried searching here, Youtube, and forums, but I cannot find basic info for a few questions.
- Are there transmitters that can just bind "out of the box" with a Haiboxing Protector?
- If not, since the buggy uses a combined ESC/receiver, would I have to pull that and buy 2 separate units? Or are there transmitters than come with ESC/Receiver combo units?
