I adopted a now-6-month-old kitten about a month ago. I slowly switched her from a 50/50 diet of canned wet and dry kibble to 50/50 Steve’s freeze dried raw and dry kibble. Because she’s a kitten, I’m giving her the full portion for an adult cat her weight of each food per day (so that overall she’s getting 2x what an adult cat her weight would get in kcal).
When she was on canned food, she wasn’t too bothersome about being hungry and occasionally wouldn’t finish a portion. Now she is INSISTENT she is still hungry, constantly. Trying to steal food from plates, etc. No worms. Does she really need MORE than 2x the kcal for her weight? Is this normal? I just feel bad she’s so hungry, but I also don’t want to create a ‘feed me all the time’ monster.
Adding: Big fan of raw, but it’s just realistically not in my budget to go all in. I’ve done this type of 50/50 split with my dog for years and saw a huge improvement in her health and condition so figured I’d tried with new kitten friend, too. I don’t remember my dog acting this hungry when we transitioned.
