Science & Kindness (out of St. Paul, MN) Repair Review
Post Body

Obligatory album first

Well, it seems like we are all wearing our jeans into the ground. There has been discussion about various denim repair options having such a huge backlog that there are waitlists and shops even refusing to take on any more pairs. That's great for the environment and I'm stoked that we are all getting our jeans fixed, but it can be a bummer if you are trying to get your fave pair patched up. So I'd like to present the community with another option for getting their jeans repaired: Science & Kindness out of the Twin Cities.

I learned about this outfit through my local menswear shop where their repair services were highly recommended. I scoped out their instagram and was impressed with the quality of work that was posted there and decided to give them a shot. They don't have a webstore right now, so contact was via email. I sent them a request with a picture of the damage that I needed fixed on my Sauce Zhan's. Which wasn't much, but I wanted to address the issues before they fully broke through. Sent them in on Jan 23rd and got them back on Feb 5th. So a little over two weeks turnaround including shipping.

As you can see in the album, the darning worked out really well. The color is matched better than with a repair I got back in December from Railcar, also a crotch repair. The repair on that pair of Samurai's was very well done, but the color of the repair thread is just slightly bluer. Most people wouldn't notice, and its not a big deal at all, but it is off. Anyway, the color blending here works great, even with the colored weft. It isn't a 100% match, but the repair is barely noticeable. I was glad that the holes weren't repaired using a patch as well. It will be a weaker repair, but I don't like any more fabric in that area than I have to have. Overall, I'm very impressed.

Cost for the repair was the seemingly standard $40 shipping/taxes for a crotch repair. I don't know about the rates for other repairs/alterations. But I'm pleased with quality of the work and the quick turnaround and would have no problem recommending them for similar work.

Right now repairs are done via appointment only, so you will have to contact them directly. Check out their work, as they are good about doing before/after shots.

According to my communications with them, they have a few machines and people working there so it might be worth an inquiry about anything you need done.

Thanks, glad I could l lend a hand! I'm working on getting my local store to start hemming. Here's got a Union Special, just hasn't had the practice on it to sell the service yet.

I love them. Wore them today in fact. After a few machine washes the color is starting to get where it's still dark but showing that initial phases of overall fading where it had an electric blueish look to it. Hard to describe. The fit is spot on for me and the fabric is cool as hell. Last update is here

That said, they aren't an easy pair of pants. It's hard to match shirts to them.

Glad to hear about other people having positive experiences there!

That's Satchel! I'm not from the area so I didn't know his history.
