How much about Dragonlance do I need to know to read Knight of the Black Rose?

Post Body

So I recently bought a lot with Vampire of the Mists, Knight of the Black Rose and Heart of Midnight. Finished, and adored, Vampire of the Mists but I'm unsure whether or not to skip Knight for the moment since I've not read any of the Dragonlance books and would probably be way out of the loop. I've heard conflicting answers as to how much or little I need to know and read of Dragonlance before starting Knight of the Black Rose, and given the sheer amount of Dragonlance material I'm even more confused.

Any ideas?

P. S. Vampire of the Mists was so damn good why does it have such a small following?
