I've already heard every reason not to do this and just trade to a 4Runner, but I'm a few years away from purchasing a new vehicle or trading. In that time, there will be several more road trips and outings where I would like to build on and enhance the light to moderate trail driving I have already been doing.
I've pulled up a few good past posts in the main RAV4 sub, but have found that the after market lift kits and accessories won't fit Prime models, or Off Road and Adventure trims.
Lift:
I have found one lift that is designed and fitted for those models from Torque Engineering. This would provide a 2" spacer lift, maintaining the factory suspension. I found at least one person that confirmed they put it on a Prime, and had no vibration issues. There are some changes to the handling after modifying, but people report this even when upgrading tires, I think it's to be expected.
To upgrade the suspension, I found 2 options for spring lifts that at least one person confirmed they put on a Prime. They are from Eibach for $399 or from Northwood for $565. These will add another 1"-1.25" to the height.
This would bring the parts total for a suspension lift to $800-$965. I've been quoted between $1,250 and $1,800 in labor from my regular mechanic and a local off road shop. Neither of the had any idea about fitting regarding prime models. One of them incorrectly told me the Rough Country lift was an option, but it does not fit Prime models and specifically says so on their website. It seems like I'm on my own for verifying fittings and ordering parts, and if I make a mistake, I will be the one paying for it. The springs also seem like something that requires some adjusting and tuning to preference and use, so that may have some ongoing cost
Under Armor:
There's a few pieces from LP adventure that I like. The front bumper guard with full armor plates and the skid plates will take care of the front and under option. I have not found anything acceptable for the rear. The body is supposedly the same on all 19-24 RAV4 models regardless of trim, and I have seen a blog post where someone installed these LP parts to their prime and tested it.
This would be $1,425 in parts, not including shipping. I'm not sure on the labor yet. A pretty pricey enhancement, but I've already heard a couple stories of regret for going without, especially the skid plate.
That's what I have come up with so far. Some feedback would be great, especially from anyone who has used any of these parts, or if there are any good options that will fit a Prime that I may have missed.
