Coming to RAV4 from CX5. Is gas enough or hybrid is worth it?
Post Body

After dealing with transmission issues on my 2021 CX5 for months, it was finally totaled by hail. Now I'm in the market for a new car. Initially, I considered sticking with another CX5, but after seeing reports of transmission failures online and Mazda's denial of the problem, I started exploring other options.

After some research, I've narrowed down my choices to the RAV4. While I've heard about issues and recalls with the 2019 and 2020 models, I'm now focusing on the 2021 and newer versions. Many people here recommend the hybrid option for its exceptional fuel efficiency, but it comes with a hefty price tag—typically $5,000 to $8,000 more than the gas version (used market). However, even the gas-powered RAV4 offers impressive MPG at 28/35, a significant improvement over my CX5.

Looking at other features, RAV4 beats CX5 everywhere it matters. It's bigger, it's more reliable, it sits higher, it has a robust transmission without failing Skyactive nonsense, it has better seats, arm support and more cargo space. And I don't care about "fun driving" at all. And what's the most important - gas RAV4 is priced around the same as CX5.

So, I'm torn between sticking with the gas-powered RAV4 or splurging on the hybrid. What do you think? Is it worth the extra investment for the hybrid, or should I stick with the gas version and save some money? Primary use would be commuting 20-30 miles a day with occasional road trips, nothing crazy.
