Upgrading my installation, some questions about performance.

Hey all!

Currently I have a Raspberry Pi 2 working as a NAS with some small applications here and there and a Raspberry Pi 3 B with a retropie installation that I use often (And most of the time to play some old stuff with friends at home).

I've been thinking on adding some stuff to my "NAS" installation, but after some tests I realized that a "proper" media center for (mostly) my music collection and some movies/tv shows was out of the Raspberry Pi 2 range, and I've started thinking on retire the 2 (and use it to play with the GPIOs) and get a new one to replace it.

But now I have the doubt of which of my two installations will benefit more from the increased performance of the Pi 3 B :

  • The "NAS/Media Center Installation", which would comprise an external hard drive, a Torrent client, Kodi, Owncloud server (With documents and calendar), a PiHole installation, a Firefox profile server, maybe a Wallabag or equivalent server and a Samba server for file sharing on my local network. Here the main "culptrit" is the Kodi Installation.

  • The retropie, which I usually boot to play 16-bit era games, although I've heard it could/should play up to PSX games (But haven't looked into that).

Power consumption is a concern, as I'm trying to stay as low key as I can, so if the differences on performance are negligible, I would just stay with the Pi3B for the NAS/Media Center installation and the more powerful one for emulation.

So, suggestions or ideas? Thanks!
