So I've had an idea which could be quite fun and a good twist to RPi robotics, but sadly I don't have the equipment, so I just want to see someone put it into action at least. It requires an Oculus Rift, working robot build (anything moveable; car, octo copter, chucky's robotic sister, whatever), two webcams, and probably two Raspberry Pi's.
Basically, it would be nice to see a robotic RPi, such as a controllable 'RC' car, with two mounted webcams feeding from that Pi to your control unit Pi. From there, you have an Oculus Rift attached and have a program combine the two video streams side-by-side and feed that into the Pi. This would give you a 3D visual experience while controlling your robot. Optionally, if using something with a more basic turning mechanism like a car, you could implement the Oculus Rift's accelerometer into a left/right controller to help control the car (or webcams if you'd rather try that).
Please excuse me if this post is rather informal and thrown together, as it's just an idea and I'm actually in the middle of some last-minute homework haha
Let me know if anyone has tried this before or is going to attempt it.. I love my RPi, I love the Oculus Rift and virtual reality, so I hope to see some more projects combining them. Cheers!
