Rico Hines Run - Gradey Dick (Player Analysis)
Post Body

It's the off-season and every piece of content on the Toronto Raptors is important for fans. Let's take a look at our latest first round draft pick Gradey Dick.

If you haven't already seen it, here is a video posted of the highlights of the latest Rico Hines Run in the summer:

Let's take a look at Gradey Dicks performance:

Offense (9/10) - as advertised Gradey is a spot up 3 point shooter - he has one of the smoothest jumpers in this draft class and one of the fastest releases - his accuracy from 3 (albeit from only the clips shown in the highlights) was bang on, made majority of this 3s

  • what was most impressive was his attacking of the rim
  • he had some amazing backboard finishes, both on same side layups and reverse layups
  • Gradey has a great potential with his height and athletics to be a great rim attacker
  • he has nifty footwork and an explosive gather step

  • his off ball movements were also fantastic, always running to an open shooting pocket to assist the driver with a bail out pass

Passing -TBD - his passing is yet to be evaluated, he mostly made hockey passes at the top of the arc to set up a player to then pass to a cutting player - he has a high IQ, but needs more work on his court vision to find tight pockets for a post player or mid range shooter - need more volume to really understand

Defense - 4/10 - this is his weakest area - Gradey gets constantly blown by attackers and with some nifty footwork, the attack gets him off his feet or moving in another direction - his help defense on switches is also not great, he needs to spend more time moving laterally in the gym - not really sure if this will improve or if he will be hidden in a zone defense - lot more games need to make a definite score but what we saw in the Rico run was not NBA standard of defense

What are your thoughts, do you agree and which Raptor player would you like me to analyze next.
