Is "classic" used too loosely?

Post Body

I recently watched Nu Jerzey Twork vs O Red, and I thought it was alright. Like many people here, I'm not a fan of guys reading their bars off their phone while their opponent raps, but it is what it is.

At the end of the battle, Suge came in and said, "that was a classic battle between my brothers," and the first thought I had was, "classic?"

When I think of a classic, I think of a battle with near infinite replay value, bars that will stand the test of time, and two battlers meeting while they're ascending. Safe to say that, at least by my definition, Twork vs O Red was not that.

Do you all think the word "classic" gets thrown around a bit too loosely whenever a battle is good or even just okay? Sometimes, I think that word gets overused to the point that it starts to lose its true value.

How do you define what a classic is? What are the first examples that come to your mind? For me, classics I think of are Rum Nitty vs Ave, JC vs Chilla Jones, Eazy vs Chess, Surf vs Hitman, B Magic vs Conceited, and those are just URL ones.

One last question: Can a battle be a classic bodybag or is that an oxymoron? Like, can a battle reach classic status solely off the strength of one battler's 3 rounds? Think Charlie Clips vs Rex, something like that where one guy is just beating the other so handily, but it still has replay value.
