When the topic of which Not So Grump you prefer, I always hear the argument that Dan and Arin have “good chemistry” while Jon and Arin don't or had tension. Now, if we were still in the first year of Dan, I could understand that, but that quality has long since passed. Yet, fans seem to overlook faults in the current time, but complain about those things when Jon was on.
“Jon's too loud.” First off, yes; Jon is loud, and did get annoying at times. I think it's more acceptable, though, because Jon is naturally a loud, outspoken person. The obvious offender of being loud these days is Arin. It doesn't work for him because that's not his personality or who he is, something he's confirmed in AMA's. I also think he takes the Jon level of loud to ridiculous levels. Why does Arin get a pass while Jon doesn't?
“Dan has better chemistry with Arin/Jon and Arin have tension.” Now, this is somewhat a result of Arin thinking there can't be two guys playing the straight man routine. It worked for Dan's first year seeing as how Arin didn't crank it up to beyond Jon levels, but once he did, I felt like Arin made it more about himself and having Dan just work as a constant yes man/laugh track, which I think is a huge disservice to Dan. It makes him a perfunctory person; he almost has no point. It only makes me miss Jon more because Jon and Arin were their own people. They had sincere personalities, thought for themselves, etc. They didn't feel the need to change themselves. I don't think it's fair to fans of the show to receive something manufactured when the show was touted as two guys just screwing about.
There's probably some bias to this considering I find Jon more funny than anything Grump related, even when he was on, but I think many people here share my sentiments.
Any thoughts on this?
