I went to school a long time ago, let's face it. I've been paying on my student loans since then but not aggressively because I've been saving for a house and I also had a little bout of brain cancer in there which is pretty expensive. Now these days I make pretty good money. I have $18,000 in student loans still. I made about $2,000 less than the cutoff for debt relief in 2021. Just squeaked under the wire there. I also bought a house in 2021 and let me tell you that was pretty expensive.
But Republican judges and Republican activists are trying to stop student loan debt relief. Why? Nearest I can tell because it helps Democrats' election chances. I don't see any Republicans complaining about PPP loans getting forgiven. But student debt getting forgiven? Oh man they got a big problem with that.
So there's a pretty decent chance that Republicans are going to get this delayed or canceled and the next time that it goes through Congress it will be for 2022 income and I will have made too much money in 2022 to qualify. But I will have to pay those loans off. That money that I have saved up to pay these loans off was going to go to economic activity in the form of a new TV, a new stereo and a vacation.
In short: if Republicans get their way I'm not going to be able to get my student debt forgiven.
If you're about to respond with "well you agreed to pay that back so don't whine" I want to know you think about people who didn't pay back their PPP loans but got them forgiven instead. Some people got hundreds of thousands of dollars of PPP loans forgiven.
