For a few years now, I've noticed this weird trend of people I meet at random social events asking me for my phone number to keep in touch after we've had very nice and sometimes intense conversations for a few hours. Then they proceed to never contact me and I never hear from them again.
Seriously people, why would you ask for someone's phone number (even going so far as to tell the other person it's because you want to stay in touch) and then proceed to never contact them? What's the point? What are you trying to prove? This happened to me twice in the past few weeks with a different person I met while watching football games (and no, before you ask, neither of us were drunk or joking). As a result, I'm done giving my phone number when asked, I just can't trust that I will get a text back, a proposal to hang out etc. I'm equally done asking strangers for their phone numbers even though that's something I was already doing very rarely.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I really care for those people nor do I necessarily think we would have become close friends but nontheless it's super weird to me to ask for my phone number voluntarily and under no pressure then proceed to behave as if I had never given it to you in the first place. This must have happened about a dozen times in the past 4-5 years. Why?
