I was at Walmart with my sister the other day, just kind of following her around while she did errands, and on our way in, we got greeted by this very sweet, lovely older woman. I'm not gonna rant about how shitty it is that retirement age people aren't allowed to stay retired anymore, that isn't the point I want to make.
The point I want to make has to do with when we left. We were walking out, and that same old woman was being chastised by her 30-something manager for sitting down.
For SITTING. DOWN.
This was a woman who, judging solely off of looks, was likely pushing almost eighty. She was apologizing to this asshole, promising to sit in the break room from then on, and as we walked out, I just got so angry. I hate confrontation, so I didn't confront him (I wish I had), but I very loudly and very sarcastically said, "Can you believe we almost saw someone sit? How awful!"
I don't think it did anything. I really wish it did, maybe it put some shame into the hole where that assholes heart should be; but it probably didn't, because let's be real, most people in manager positions are, on average, severely ego driven and think they're incapable of mistakes.
