My Grandparents are originally from the Philippine Islands, married not out of status but out of love. As children they survived the hardships of World War II, but also massive political changes during and after the war. My grandmother grew out extreme circumstances due to her father's death during the war. Many Filipinos from that time had many siblings and my grandparents had their share of arguments with the multitudes of siblings that they had. After putting themselves through college individually they had a chance meeting as accountants in a major banking institution. My grandfather knew that is immediately love at first sight, but my grandmother wanted to put him through the ringer. Eventually they married 60 years ago to this day, hand built their own house (which now houses my other relatives) and wanting a better life for their family immigrated to Chicago.
Them most recently dancing the day away.
I have always known them as the most insistent people on whether or not I'm full and the kindest hearts in the galaxy. It's now thinking about were they were and how they got there was almost what seems like and endless process of giving and sending out acts of kindness.
