How screwed am I?
Post Body

So, a little over a year ago I got a V3 for a decent price as the owner thought it was overheating water and didn't want to repair it himself. Picked it up and replaced the 165 Degree thermostat and promptly snapped the screw off in the boiler when tightening. The thermostat can still sit against the boiler but is not secure, while this has worked thus far, it bothers me knowing it isn't perfect and I want to sort it out.

I can't seem to find a new boiler that isn't the V4 and doesn't cost more than my machine did initially and that just bothers me too... Any advice or suggestions on where I can find just the old housing or a decently priced V4 boiler? I am in the UK btw.

I had the exact same thing happen with a different brand machine. I bought a screw extractor kit and promptly ruined the boiler threads, as I was way beyond my skill set, and impatient.

My second machine is a modded Silvia with an Auber PID. It's not as sexy as my chrome plated machine, but the damn thing is a workhorse.

I might try it if I was in your shoes. The Silvia boilers aren't that expensive. I messed up a boiler from a larger HX machine. Replacing it on a 10 year old machine did not seem to be a cost effective move.
