I once read a Rolling Stone interview that I wished I kept but it was an interview with Johnny published before his death but after Joey's. He spoke about his dislike of Joey and how it would have felt disingenuous to go to his funeral. He said he wouldn't want anyone who didn't like him at his funeral. When asked if he would ever play with another singer, he said no, Joey was his singer.
I think there was a complicated amount of respect he had for Joey and I often think Johnny gets a bad rap about their relationship.
