Had three offers rejected in as many weeks. Each time 10-20 thousand over asking and each time edged out by people with even higher offers and/or cash. Agent says this is typical for buyers in this price range right now, so it isn't even bad luck. Just the way things are.
Seems like the only recourse is finding some fixer-upper no one wants, or else massively overpaying.
Fuck.
EDIT: Thanks for the condolences, encouragement, and advice (even the ones that were a bit backhanded). Y'all have given me some things to think about, and I will keep pushing.
