Like do they even know they are abusive?
My mom has been convincing all of the mental health professionals I see that I'm just crazy and think she is abusive, and convinced them that she isn't and it's me being delusional.
Which makes me wonder. Is she intentionally gaslighting and trying to cover things up? Or does she genuinely not see any of her behaviors as abusive and doesn't understand?
I'd like to think it is all unintentional or compulsive because then I'd be able to have sympathy for her.
But then in family therapy a few months ago with one of the only therapists to ever believe me, we told my mom about lesser things, like how she can be extremely invalidating.
And she proceeded to say "I've never been like that, I can't think of a time I've said anything wrong".
Which is either her trying to deny things to avoid getting in trouble, being in denial, or her not seeing her behavior for what it is.
