After much contemplation, I realized that it is not just my parents who are narcissists but the trend is very common with their entire generation: baby boomers (born between 1946-64 Sure, anomalies exist). No matter where they were in the world, our grandparents focused on their children. Besides being born at a time of world peace and being provided food, shelter and schooling, they were also given time and attention. Mothers probably didn’t work as much. Dads had a better work-life balance and retired at 65. At some point, our parents started to take all these things for granted. When US went to war, our lazy and entitled parents became hippies. Maybe the mistake our grandparents made was to not teach them about our planet that might die soon (due to lack of knowledge). Now our parents expect us to behave how they did while not understanding that we are not born in the same world as their’s. They ruined the world for us! A complete disregard for the planet being one issue, I see my parents on their tablets and iPhones (something they always complain about when we do it) also, a complete hedonistic approach to life with a general disregard to being healthy. They were also the creators of debt (and credit cards), so greedy that they don’t want to retire and more recently, they have been contributors to COVID-19. Look around you. Who are the examples? Many entitled world leaders come to mind. And if there are any progressive world leaders (example: Canada or New Zealand), they are from the generation that followed our parents’.
