Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong, I fully support talking to a therapist. Therapy can be very rewarding for some people, including myself.
I feel like a lot of people on this sub will comment on someone's like, deep and personal story seeking validation or legitimate, well thought out advice with one single sentence: "Maybe you should speak to a therapist about it." or "Go to a counselor." which is honestly just baffling to me. I feel like... Most people on this thread either go to therapy or aren't in a position to but want to (underage, money, etc.) but are looking for support and assistance elsewhere. Also it can be hard to find a good therapist so you could be between therapists... Or just in general find it easier to open up to people who are in the same situation as them.
Edit: I feel like most people already see this as a valid resource and don't need to be reminded of this option, but maybe I'm totally off in my own experience land. But what I find especially annoying is when someone is like, I'm trying to open up because my therapist thinks it would be good for me (or something to that effect), and then someone else comes on and posts "maybe you should talk to a therapist about it" like... Are you even reading the post before you post on it.
Side bar: My therapist actually recommended this sub to me, because she thought it would be good for me to listen to similar stories and experiences and maybe feel free to share my own. While I can be validated by my therapist and my close friends, it's different to see and hear advice from someone who's actually in the trenches with you.
I am just surprised that a lot of the posts I've been on for the last couple of days, I've always seen one or more of these messages. It's just frustrating because it's like what do you get out of responding with that? Other than upvotes for karma or whatever, like isn't it the whole point of this thread to support and uplift eachother?
Anyways all of this is a rant and it may not even be directed in the right place but I just had to put it out there. Thanks for reading.
