The time my parents showed 8 year old me the dead body of a man who had shot himself

I was just reflecting upon some memories, and this one sticks out a lot. They had told me it was to deter me from ever wanting to kill myself from a shotgun, because the head was completely caved-in and had to be reconstructed for the funeral. I remember NMom telling me that sometimes shotgun suicides put blankets over their heads first, which makes the embalmer's job much easier.
Looking back, I'm thinking WTF, even though this stuff was normal for me growing up.
