So...yeah. This is one of the few good things to come out of this mess. Maybe my Nmom did have a soul at some point!
Still, because of what he tried to do and tried to extort me over Parent PLUS loans (which were all paid off, according to the loan servicing company), I have no problem just washing my hands of the situation and not doing anything about her estate and leaving it all up to him. It's not my responsibility and I am NOT going to continue to associate with my abusive Nbro any longer. I can't even trust anything he says and trying to get him to do anything is almost impossible. Not to mention he hasn't changed at all since being in jail and is just as abusive and manipulative as he was before. I can't let all the work I've done on myself go to waste to deal with him.
Still, I am very glad the pension plan called to let me know the bank account information was incorrect. I told them my brother was holding my paperwork hostage (which he was telling the truth, he told me he had my papers there, but would only send them if I agreed to take care of everything pertaining to the estate. I pretty much wiped my hands of it at that point, then I got the phone call a few days later), and they sent it over to me. They also told me that I was the only beneficiary. HA!
If he tries to sue me, my boyfriend pretty much said that he'd pay for my lawyer if it came to that, but we both doubt he'd do it. My shitty aunt and shitty uncle might, but again, I got that covered.
Now I just have to figure out how fast I get the money, so I can put the vast majority of the money towards my student loans. After that, I'll have only $3k left in loans! Hell, if this means I'm a money-grubbing bitch, then so be it. I have to take care of myself first.
(Before anyone asks or tells me to get a lawyer, no, I am not getting a lawyer for this. I also already talked to a CPA who has done taxes for over 40 years and told me to take the lump sum and pay off my student loans ASAP and to tell my brother to fuck off. Because it's MY money and I can spend it how I wish.)
