My nMom’s mental health meant there wasn’t much of an emphasis on oral hygiene. We learned how and what to do when we were young but it’s almost like at age 6-7, no one ever talked about or were seen brushing their teeth again (except for my younger sibling and I but we were kids and would often try to get out of it).
When our peers were getting braces, we were kind of relieved bc as pre teens we thought they were embarrassing and hated the dentist. But as an adult, I can see my parents just never wanted to take us to the dentist. We both had impacted wisdom teeth and they weren’t dealt with until adulthood bc we were never taken to the dentist or orthodontist! Even as a kid I had an over jet with my 2 front teeth but they weren’t as noticeable bc I was a child.
Now as an adult in her mid 30s, my teeth are so fucked up. Perhaps it was a matter of money and I can understand that… if my parents didn’t spend money on stupid things like 2 Christmas trees or countless dogs.
Who else should’ve had oral care but didn’t?
God this reminded me of how my nmom legit the WORST got angry at me because I had to start wearing glasses? Blamed me for my vision and told me I looked like an ugly grandma with them on.
