Carr discussion: Are we holding on for too long?
Post Body

After years of being a Raider fan and an overall NFL fan. I’m starting to feel like maybe the franchise is holding on to Carr for a little too long. Alternatively I think Carr might be holding on to the Raiders for too long.

Over the last 20-25 years I’ve seen a lot of teams get “stuck” on a QB that they feel is their guy only to continue to struggle. Same with some of the QB’s they stay year after year hoping the rest of the team catches up but the franchise never does. Sometimes what ends up working for both the team and the player is to just move on.

I think back to Alex Smith and his years with SF. He struggled for years and years, had sparks of success but was never really consistent. When he moved to KC and then Washington he was like a different player. Alternatively the 49ers moved on and made 2 Super Bowls, and the Cheifs also found their guy and made a Super Bowl.

Another name that comes to mind is Phillip Rivers. All those years wasted in SD but as he left SD got their future guy and Rivers had a great season in Indy. I can only imagine if it happened sooner.

Ryan Tennehil, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Matt Stafford.......and maybe Derek Carr?

No matter how you feel about Derek there is something to be said about a franchise and a player holding on to each other for too long. Sometimes it’s best for both to move on.
