Hey everyone!
Welcome to weekly update 143. This week we’ll go over a couple of very cool new hacks built on top of Raiden and we will also give an update on the general development progress. Let’s dig in!
ETHOnline hackathon results
ETHOnline, the biggest event of the year organized by ETHGlobal ended on October 30th. A big part of the event was the hackathon which the Raiden team sponsored with 2 prizes. For the first prize, the Raiden team was looking for the best hack to utilize Raiden to scale payments while the second prize was for the best hack combining DeFi and Raiden. Both prizes were funded with $2000 in RDN.
The winner of the first prize is the ShareMyRPC hack. ShareMyRPC enables dApps to pay for their RPC usage over a payment channel and node owners to serve responses if they received money for it. The demo video with an explanation of the solution can be found here.
The second prize was taken by SpringUP. This application allows supporters to subscribe to creators according to different levels set by the creator and pay accordingly. It allows the creators to share exclusive content with the supporters of different levels. If you are interested in this project you can see the demo here.
Congratulations to the winners!
Development progress
Last week, the Raiden development team continued their progress towards the 1.2.0 Raiden client release. All features planned for this release are completed and only some additional testing is remaining before everything is ready for the new release. The features completed during the last week include Faster Sync and implementation of toDevice capability. This release won’t require a smart contract upgrade.
In parallel, development of the Raiden light client is also progressing forward. There aren’t many open issues left in the product backlog and we could also see the new release pretty soon.
Conclusion
This is all for this week. The Raiden development team is very close to a couple of major development milestones and we are looking forward to trying out the new features. If you have any questions please leave a comment.
Cheers!
