Hey everyone!
Welcome to Weekly Update 133. This week we’ll take a deeper look into the Github repositories and go over some of the new features the Raiden development team is planning and working on. Let’s dig in!
Development progress and the upcoming features
Since the Alderaan mainnet release was introduced in late May, the Raiden development team has been focusing more than prior on collecting feedback, watching how the network is behaving and finishing up final touches to the release. June was mostly reserved for wrapping up a couple of things that weren’t ready in time for the Alderaan release, In July the team worked on the Reddit scaling competition submission - Raiddit, while in August they focused on maintenance and refactoring.
Last week in parallel to maintenance and refactoring they also started (or continued) working on new features. The features we mention here are not a final list of the short term priorities and only provide examples of what we can expect in the future.
The integration of WebRTC for a faster transport layer is being worked on again. WebRTC will be the preferred transport layer and Matrix will be used as a fallback. Once completed, this integration will significantly speed up payments in the Raiden network.
In addition, the development team noticed that the initial start up of the Raiden client can take some time. They are looking to speed up this process by implementing more selective filtering of the events. Removal of internal routing will allow for even better performance boost.
The Stakenet devs opened a couple of interesting feature requests. Safe channel backup mechanism should ensure funds are never lost in case of a major failure of the machine Raiden is running on while Windows support would make Raiden accessible to more users.
Finally, RSB operators should soon get a dashboard where they will be able to find relevant and interesting information about their Raiden Service Bundle.
Conclusion
That’s everything we have for you in this episode of the Weekly Update series. The main things for Raiden GitHub development this week is wrapping up final pieces that still required some focus after Alderaan. The transport and startup improvements (once ready) will be an improvement to the user experience of Raiden. If you have any questions about this update or want to learn more about Raiden Network in general then please leave a comment, we’ll get back to you the best we can.
Cheers!
