Post Body

Hey everyone!

Welcome to Weekly Update 74. For this week’s update we’ll be going over some of the details of the ongoing Beyond Blockchain Hackathon, hosted by Gitcoin and sponsored by a list of progressive projects in the Ethereum space—including Raiden. This is the GIT update so of course, we’ll be covering the usual Github development progress also. Let’s dig in!

Beyond Blockchain Hackathon

The Beyond Blockchain virtual hackathon is a three-week hackathon currently running, where developers from all over the world have the opportunity to participate. Each of these tasks, part of the hackathon, offers a bounty set by the projects sponsoring the event. Raiden joined the event as one of the sponsors and for this purpose created 3 tasks for the hackers to choose from.

The tasks set by the Raiden team gives the hackers a lot of freedom to come up with their own approach to the problem. Additional information can be found in a short interview with Raiden’s Franziska. Even though the event is ongoing since June 24th, there is still enough time to submit your hack before applications close on July 10th. Several interesting projects such as Raiden Go Client and Raiden Ticker have been created for the challenge and we hope to see more!

Development progress

Last week we saw a lot of development activity across all the repositories on Github. The main focus is Ithaca related open issues alongside testing and internal audit of the code.

In the Raiden client repository, the devs worked on proper handling of pruned blocks, dynamic mediation fees and expiry of the withdraw request which should prevent unnecessary locking of funds inside the channel in edge cases. Furthermore, the developers are working on both token minting feature and integration with faucets on the testnets which should significantly improve user and developer experience. Raiden services were under internal audit/testing which resulted in the discovery of 4 bugs.

There were also minor improvements to the Raiden Monitoring Service and Raiden Messages specs to reflect some changes in the code. We can expect more updates to the MS and PFS spec as this issue progresses. If you’re mostly just interested in overall services progress, you can quickly keep up with the bi-weekly iterations!

Conclusion

To conclude this Weekly Update,

A short reminder that the online hackathon finishes on Wednesday (the 10th) so if you want to get a hack going you better get in quick. Or if you have a community you meetup with and feel you want to learn more, get in contact with the Raiden team to create a workshop!

As usual, thanks for reading and please leave a comment with anything you’re interested about in the update (or Raiden in general) and we’ll get back to you the best we can.

Cheers!
