Hey everyone!
Welcome to Weekly Update 73. This week we’ll be doing a summary of some things covered in the bi-monthly Raiden Pulse. We’ll also be going over the Raiden dApp progress and reference implementation of the Raiden Light Client SDK. Of course, the usual Github progress on top of that, to finish off. Let’s dive in!
Raiden Pulse #6
Raiden Pulse is an official bi-monthly update on all things Raiden. Last week the Raiden team released the newest iteration which covers the most significant events from the past two months.
The article begins with the coverage of the development progress towards the Ithaca milestone. Important features such as mediation fees, source routing and withdraw function which were priorities in the past two months are briefly explained. Following the development, progress is the most significant general updates, a short overview of the light client and Raiden dApp, the introduction of the new team members and an overview of the events the Raiden team participated in.
The article finishes with the list of upcoming events you will be able to meet the Raiden team. In addition to Blockchain Week Berlin in August, the team is working on organizing participation at the Devcon 5.
Raiden dApp
In May, the Raiden team announced their work on the Raiden Light Client SDK and a first reference implementation, the Raiden dApp. Since the announcement, they’ve continued working towards Milestone 0 where the light client will be able to send tokens, although will not yet be able to receive tokens. For functions not yet available in the dApp, users will be required to run a full Raiden node (for example via DAppNode!).
For internal testing purposes and to make development progress more transparent to the public, the Raiden team decided to host the Raiden dApp and make it easily available to the public (it was possible to self host it previously but it required some technical know-how). The Raiden dApp is available here, however it is important to remember that the Raiden Light Client SDK and the first interface using it (the Raiden dApp) are in the very early development stage.
If you are interested to try the Raiden dApp yourself, /u/Mat7ias created a short guide you can follow.
Development progress
Last week the development team continued progress towards the Ithaca milestone, focusing on features within the Next Release Milestone.
Some of the features that’ve been worked on are: correct handling of pruned blocks which will be making Raiden more resilient to transaction races and failed transactions due to pruned blocks, expiry of withdraw requests which will prevent funds getting locked indefinitely, and planning of the endpoint for minting tokens which will be useful for testing purposes. Alongside new features, the development team worked on fixing bugs and minor refactoring.
Conclusion
To finish up, for this Weekly Update we’ve seen the new Raiden Pulse release covering the what the team has been busy with during the past 2 months. The dApp reference implementation of the Raiden Light Client SDK is interesting to play with if you want to check out a simple version of Raiden without running a full Raiden node. If you want all the fun Raiden functionality you will want to run a full Raiden node. As always, thanks for reading. If you have any questions relating to this update or Raiden overall please leave a comment and we will get back to you the best we can.
Cheers!
