Hey everyone!
Welcome to Weekly Update 72. To start last week off, Dominik from the Raiden team held a talk and demo during the TU Berlin (a technical university located in Germany’s capital) blockchain lab, helping introduce attendees to Raiden as part of the blockchain and smart contracts module. There were also a number of interesting events throughout the week which we’ll cover more in-depth in this update, so let’s dig in!
Raiden available on DAppNode
Collaboration between DAppNode and Raiden was initially announced in April (here). The goal of the collaboration was to provide an option for a user-friendly installation process for a Raiden node without sacrificing security and decentralization. Last week,, Raiden became available on DAppNode.
Parallel to the announcement, the Raiden team released a Medium article containing more details. The article briefly explains what DAppNode is and lists all the major benefits this collaboration brings such as one-click install button to deploy a Raiden node, along with the VPN support DAppNode offers. Furthermore, the article contains step-by-step guide for running Raiden on both Goerli testnet and Ethereum mainnet.
DAppNode can significantly lower level of technical knowledge required to start running your own Raiden node. We encourage everyone interested to give it a try and provide feedback.
Applications for Raiden Trust opened
An external development fund for the Raiden ecosystem was first announced during the token launch and has been officially established as the Raiden Trust in late April this year. Last week, the Raiden Trust opened applications for the first wave of grants.
The complete guidelines, as well as the kinds of projects Raiden Trust is searching for and what beneficiaries can expect, can be found on the Raiden Trust official website. The application form each applicant will have to fill out is available in the top right corner of the official website.
The Raiden Trust team is aware that detailed application forms and documentation can be overwhelming, and mention not to worry if you don't have the answer to all the questions. You can always provide more details later on. If you have an idea and need help with the application or have additional questions, feel free to contact the trust directly via the official email ([email protected]).
Development progress
Last week, the Raiden development team focused on open issues related to Ithaca milestone. Most of the development attention has been put into Raiden client repository. Permissive source routing, a feature which significantly improves how payments are routed inside a token network, has been reviewed and the first implementation has been merged. Parallel to working on features, the team worked on test infrastructure, bug fixes and minor refactoring.
The Raiden team decided to join the BEYOND BLOCKCHAIN virtual hackathon. For this purpose, a new repository to the Github titled hackathons has been added. It contains 3 open issues, all describing different potential hackathon tasks available for potential participants to work on. Those issues will be linked to Gitcoin bounties as part of the virtual hackathon. We will closely follow submissions hoping we will see more great ideas as we did during the ETHCapeTown hackathon.
Conclusion
To wrap up this Weekly Update, an interesting week behind us with DAppNode, Raiden Trust, workshops, etc. The Raiden twitter also put out an announcement this week that Lefteris will be talking at DAPPCON Berlin in August, 21st-23rd. On an added note we also saw a new frontend dev, Manuel, joined the team and started working on Raiden’s UI. That’s it for this update. As always, thanks for reading! If you have any questions feel free to put them in the comments and we’ll get back to you the best we can.
Cheers!
