Hey everyone!
Welcome to the 31st Weekly Update. A very eventful week is behind us, both in terms of development progress and other activities around the project. Weāll start this post with a quick recap of all the miscellaneous activities and then continue to check the newest Raiden release and what we can expect in the upcoming week. So, without further ado, letās dive in!
Raiden Weekly Digest
The week started of with an introduction of the new official blog format called Raiden Pulse. The idea behind it is to provide a bi-monthly summary of everything related to Raiden. Reading through the first edition we can see how much progress has been made in every aspect of the project in just two months. Raiden Pulse is a great format and it will allow people who donāt follow the project on regular basis to quickly catch up on everything.
On the same day Raiden Pulse was introduced, Ethereum Copenhagen Meetup took place. Raiden was represented by Jacob and the video of his presentation can be found here. Most of the presentationās content could already have been seen at previous conferences that the Raiden team has participated in, but a successful demo of the new webUI was never seen before. I highly recommend watching the whole presentation as itās quite short (15 minutes), but provides great explanation of everything related to Raiden.
Now that Jacobās broken the ice for that, the new webUI will be presented further in the upcoming āMass adoption and use-casesā meetup on Wednesday. You can find more information about the event here.
Raiden v0.7.0 - ā14-Bisā
14-Bis is the codename for the latest Raiden tesnet release. The most important changes are the bug fixes that prevent the Raiden client from crashing or getting bricked.
Alongside these very important bug fixes, the development team spent a significant amount of time fixing small bugs and adding features to the new webUI which was introduced last week. As the new webUI will be the star of the show this Wednesday itās understandable that the development team wanted to polish it as much as possible to ensure a smooth presentation.
A number of other time consuming features were started this week, but were not ready for merging by the end of the week, so they were pushed for the next week. This is just due to the fact some features are too big to be finished in a week of development.
Development progress
With 14-Bis released, the Red Eyes Testnet 7 milestone was closed. Several tasks that were left inside of it were already moved to the Red Eyes Testnet 8 milestone. Tasks that didnāt make it in time for 14-Bis are all very complex and itās good not to rush reviewing and merging them.
The development of stress tests is one of the very important features thatās regained focus this week. Stress tests in general aim to push any software to its limits. In the case of Raiden, that would be sending large amount of transactions in very short time. Successful implementation of complex stress tests is a very demanding task and several team members joined forces in solving this issue. More details/progress on their implementation can be followed here.
Other important features that we can expect in the upcoming week are improvements in gas management, infrastructure, exception handling and much more.
Conclusion
As always, a special thanks to you in the community supporting this update as readers and the guys at brainbot who help with this post. Just a short reminder again, I encourage you to keep an eye out for Berlin Blockchain Weekās Mass adApption & use-cases event (itās free for anyone in the area). And donāt forget, if you have any questions just leave a comment.
Cheers!
