Might lose my kitten

Post Body

My newer kitten has been tiny since birth, he was the smallest in the litter. I've been worried about his size and eating, so I took him to the vet. He has no muscle mass and no fat, he's almost 6 months old and only weighs 1kg, and very little appetite no matter what food I offer him. The vet basically said that we don't know what's wrong with him until some tests, but that I should emotionally prepare for him to be put down. Sorry for the vent but I had to let this out somewhere. I also know this isn't technically a pet loss, but the vet made me feel like I've already lost him.

Don’t feel defeated yet. While you wait for results, try Gerber baby food (chicken or turkey) and mouth feeding him with your finger very little at the time. Try also giving him unflavored Pedyalite water. I fostered two kittens that became lethargic and lost appetite and were diagnosed with parvo, which was crushing and the vets put them down without giving me a chance to take them back and trying to do my best, and I’ll always remember them and feel crushed about that, but it was their policy and I had no control over it. I remember at one point one of the kittens was responding to the Gerber food I was hand feeding him, and regaining some energy.

Best of luck, whatever the outcome is. You are trying your best

Thank you, I’ll never forget them. It was a large kill shelter and I hate the way that went. Once they went to the back I could not do anything about it. It didn’t stop me from fostering dozens more afterwards 🫶🏻
