Display Port woes

Hi all,

I'm starting to get frustrated with something, though I am not sure how much this relates to AMD.

In short, I have an RX5600xt which was originally set up via Display Port. Everything worked fine, drivers are all up to date.

I recently bought some new speakers, and needed to re-arrange things. The current DP cable I had was too short, so I unplugged and shuffled PC to one side (still powered on, only needed to move a small distance).

Now, when I reconnected with the longer cable, I have no DP output. The issue is also present with the original, shorter one.

I've had this issue once before, though I attributed it to a Windows update happening at the same time in the background.

On that occasion, I didn't have any other cable format, except a DVI-D. But, to test this, I had to switch to my older gtx1060 which resolved the issue. From what I remember, I had to also reset the boot order in the bios for some reason (hence why I attributed to Win update).

I didn't want to do this again, so went and bought a cheap HMDI 2.1 - this gives display output. If I swap back to the DP cable without powering down, I still don't have a signal, but can go back to the HDMI output just fine.

Is there something I should know here? I shouldn't have to fear unplugging a damn cable like this.

Thanks for your thoughts.
