I’ve never been compelled to post in a subreddit like this before. But I’m honestly feeling incredibly down about the state of society after meeting this kid tonight.
I’m a white male who lives in Massachusetts. I’m not looking to get woke points with this post. I’m not trying to be invited to the cookout. But let me tell you about this kid:
He was saying that there was not one black person that he liked. Was citing their “charcoal” or “mud” color skin tone as one of the reasons why. He went on a diatribe that blacks are much more racist than white people. He went the whole nine yards. Constantly was using the hard “er” word. Was making MONKEY noises.
The thing I was most disappointed about was that my good friend of 6 years was LAUGHING about what he was saying. Not out of absurdity. But in the sense that he was like “oh yeah...black people are totally like that.”
I had to speak up. So I asked this kid if he was proud of being racist. He essentially said yes. I followed up by saying “do you actually think whites are the superior race?”
He deflected the question and then said that was the stupidest thing he had ever heard. Said I was “uneducated.”
I’m left wondering: why do we continue as a society? I basically don’t want to live in this world when there’s people like this out there. All the division...it’s honest to god brutal. It’s not worth it to live in the same world as ignorant people.
My good friend was a bystander in this situation. I don’t want to cut him out of my life because there’s other things we connect on. But fucking WHY man? Why do people choose to hate entire races based on a negative experience with a select few amount of individuals?
