In Los Angeles County
Last Thursday, I was bit by a pet dog when I was walking home. The owner was on the phone and had no grip on its leash. The owner spoke very little English but assured me the dog had all it's vaccinations. He provided no proof and got nervous when I asked for his contact information. I felt bad cuz he was old so I let him go. Pushover, I know. Blood was drawn from the bite but it's healed fairly well. I ran into the same owner the next day and the dog seemed fairly calm, but to be fair the owner gripped the dog by the neck so it'd stay put. He again apologized and said he lived in the area.
I know that there's only been two reported cases of human rabies in LA so far but my health anxiety is killing me. I feel stressed and exhausted from worrying all the time and I've started to lose sleep over it. And even if I wanted to get the treatment JUST for the ease of mind, it's far too expensive.
I guess all I'm looking for some reassurance that I'm not going to die a terrible, gruesome death.
