When I say 'takes you back' I mean that thing that just brings your mind back to someplace significant to you. Maybe it's the smell of a perfume/cologne that reminds you of that chance/fleeting encounter with someone on a hot summer evening, or a song that brings you back to your teenage/childhood years and navigating life, or a movie that grabs you by the gut because it reminds you or a parent that passed.
For me, a song that hits deep is 6th Avenue Heartache - The Wallflowers. It knocks me way back to my teenage years and trying to navigate life (sometimes just survive), the cool fall air, crispy leaves dropped from trees crunching under shoes, and making a promise to myself to do things way better than what was going on around me.
It also reminds me of comet Hale-Bopp (anyone remember this? it was so bright in the sky and in the sky for sooo long! It was visible for more than a year). I remember pointing it out to my mother and making sure she'd see it, and she was disinterested (ha!). A line from the song "I've got my fingers crossed on a shooting star, just like me just moved on" (holding a somewhat romantic/childish view of things) really resonated with me at the time and I saved up some money and bought a Bushnell 675 x 4.5” reflector telescope to see more of what was out there (in space), and help me understand that there is more out there (on Earth) for everyone.
What hits deep for you?
