Did you know that "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a grammatically correct English sentence?
I love language, expression and communication. I enjoy erudite rap, Tom Stoppard plays, and gnostic philosophy. In the past couple of years I've been to around two dozen live performances, mostly plays, but also musicals, comedy, and concerts.
Here are some hot take opinions:
- Free will is an illusion
- Individualism is a myth perpetuated to the benefit of nation states and consumer markets
- Cold water is the best beverage
Seeking that sort of relationship where we can trust each other in a prisoner's dilemma.
Pawn to e4 is the most common chess opening, but the number of possible games that can emerge from this is enormous, and a 'boring' opening doesn't mean that it will be a boring game. Similarly, "hi" or "hey" is a very 'ordinary' opening to a conversation, but there are so many ways that the conversation can unfold, if both people are actively participating, that using a 'boring' opening doesn't mean it will be a boring conversation. I have no problem replying to this sort of low-stakes opener, but surely both of us are hoping to be more engaged than that. Alternatively, to show me that you read this post, try working the word buffalo into your message. It's tough carrying a conversation with people who show no curiosity, and who answer with only one to three words.
This is not my first post here, and I'd recommend you look through some of my others before replying.
