I've been here about six or seven weeks at this point, and I think the charm and lustre of this place have just about worn off. Not that I was ever truly enamored by Japan; I'd been here a couple times before so I had an idea of what to expect, and while I can appreciate the culture it's not something I'm super interested in—I've never watched anime or anything like that. Honestly speaking it's hard to articulate why exactly I came here, other than I'm half and it seemed (and seems) like a good idea.
But if I've experienced any sort of honeymoon period in Japan here, it's been in the bars and friends I've found in the alleys of late nights. But those sorts of friends come and go, at least when you can't speak any Japanese. They're all tourists—visiting for a few weeks or so—and I'm a salaryman—I've got to live here. I can't spend money every day like I'm on vacation, I can't party until 6am every night.
So I guess I'm looking for something stable, someone I can get drinks with during the week. Not gonna lie, I've been single since January and it would be nice to settle into a new relationship again, but obviously you can't force those sorts of things. So for right now I'll settle for a drinking buddy, or someone I can shoot the shit with every once in a while.
This has already gotten pretty long but I'd probably be remiss not to leave at least a brief description of myself. As I mentioned, I'm half Japanese (half White) and tend to blend in with the locals pretty well. 5'8", slim, your typical ectomorph. My hobbies are all sorta up in the air at the moment given I'm in a period of transition, but right now I spend a lot of my free time programming, reading, and occasionally trying (and so far failing) to produce stuff worthy of being read as well. In terms of location, I'm around the Ikebukuro area so it'd be nice if you're somewhat close, but it's no problem if you're a little farther too.
Alright I think I need to end this lol. Hmu if you're interested!
