I'm looking for anyone who'd like to chat about the deep things in life. What is the good life? Where is humanity going? As an increasingly secular society, are we losing anything important?
Lately, I've been thinking about how the Buddha discovered the Middle Way by observing the excesses of the walled-garden wealth of his father contrasted against the excesses of the ascetic holy ones.
It seems to me there are similar extremes today--like the extreme futurism of the Singularity on one hand (transfer your consciousness to a silicon substrate and live forever in a world of your own creation), and on the other hand, extreme traditionalism or an escape back to primitive life in places like Edenhope--a part of a tropical island where a handful of people have gone to leave the capitalist/consumerist Paradigm altogether. Is there a modern middle way?
I'm happily married, and always looking for new friends.
