Where have you been hiding? In a past life I was the one fixing and painting the fence, while you were preparing dinner. I’d come in exhausted after a hard days work, but I’d eagerly pick up our children and put them on my shoulder. I’d tell you to stop what you’re doing and come play. You’d giggle and say you didn’t want dinner to burn.
You remind me of some of the things that need to be fixed around the house and I smile. Reminding you that I have already completed some of those. Next will be to paint the nursery like you've been bugging me to, but I've been too busy playing with the kids.
I kiss you on the back of the neck and say I’m going to shower, I wish you could join me. We then have a nice meal - us and our two kids. They are growing so fast.
After we put the kids to bed, I wrap you in my arms and tell you that I love you. It’s my job to make sure you’re safe and protected - and it is my greatest honour.
