I am a frumpish, socially maladjusted, deeply introverted, middle-aged man. Hello.
I am putting my worst foot forward deliberately. By keeping expectations low, I may pleasantly surprise you. (It's also kind of fun trash talking oneself.)
I live in San Francisco, whose streets are full of crazy people and poop. Nevertheless I love to take long solitary urban treks, during which, owing to the condensed geography of the city, I feel as though I am passing through many worlds.
Maybe I'll end up in the mall and sit with a book. Sitting with a book in the mall—life doesn't get much better than that.
Anyway. Enough about me. I'm looking for small and large talk with other humans, preferably face to face, in real life.
My interests, in addition to daily life in all its endlessly fascinating, quotidian splendor, include psychology and psychoanalysis, literary and popular culture, philosophy and political theory, history and politics, and so on. I have several graduate degrees but like to fancy myself an autodidact, in the sense that I never really became hyper-specialized in any one area but remained all over the place. In other words, a dilettante. Despite spending many years as a student (including, as noted above, as a postgraduate), I now work (perhaps suitably and unsurprisingly) as a substitute teacher.
