There’s a supermarket analogy that I’ve used before. Posting on these threads tends to begin with saying “Hey, I’m looking for an apple” and then having people bring you everything but an apple. Sometimes the closest thing you’ll get is a tomato. Yeah, it’s…round, red, has a stem and is a fruit…but you wouldn’t really put it in a smoothie, would you? Though people do put apples in salads. Argh, I’m losing my point here: an apple is requested but everything except an apple is often provided. Perhaps it’s a misunderstanding or – more likely – it’s someone hoping that you won’t notice or remember that what they’re providing isn’t an apple. “Okay, okay. It’s not an apple but Rambutans are delicious, too!”

I like Rambutans, by the way.

Yet there’s also instances where saying that you want an “apple” isn’t sufficient either. What happens when you’re asking for an apple thinking “Granny Smith” but then someone arrives with a “Pinata” (real apple btw)? I’d imagine it’d be something like reaching for a Skittle, popping it in your mouth and finding out that it was an M&M. Nothing disgusting, sure, but not what’s expected. Then you have to decide if you’re cool with just eating M&Ms and are willing to reach out for the bowl again.

I’m getting off track.

I’ll end this by saying the following: I know what I want. Communication, transparency, and honesty. I also acknowledge that while these things tend to have a bit of “depth”, I have some surface desires as well like physical attraction and liking the sound of someone’s voice. Still, with all of that in mind, I’m open-minded enough to accept the variables. If you can bring a different flavor to what I’m looking for, don’t be shy. Maybe I don’t know the joys of a Jaffa orange because I’ve spent my entire life eating Valencia oranges. Just don’t try to pass a banana off as a pineapple, you know?

Look, if you’re into intelligent discourse (textual and verbal), appreciate duality, possess a bit of empathy, and can appreciate a good sense of humor? Chances are we’ll get along fine. I want someone to be my authentic self around, and I want them to feel comfortable doing the same. Unless your authentic self is messaging “Hi” and nothing else. That rustles my jimmies.

I’m looking for a woman that can hold a conversation, has a good sense of humor, and is secure in who she is and what she wants. Attraction is also a must, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.
