Hi NYC Redditors! I hope you had a great weekend.
I'm a Chinese-American guy working as a software developer for a Fortune 500 company. I will be in NYC from May 13-16 for one of the R.F. Kuang book signings! The friend that I usually visit in NYC is going to out of town that weekend, and I was hoping to find someone on here that would be interested in hanging out Saturday, Sunday, or Monday while I have free time! I'm hoping you could show me around some cool spots, maybe some hole-in-the-wall places that no one else knows about? This is probably going to be my last visit to the city in awhile, so I'd like to make sure I get to some of the must-dos that I haven't before.
Here's some information about myself:
I'm 29 years old and graduated in 2016 with a computer engineering degree.
I used to have a cat back home, but now there's a big dog. I have a few pictures which are available on request.
I love cooking and trying new recipes!
I took 4 years of Mandarin Chinese in high school and am also very slowly teaching myself to read and write Japanese.
I play a lot of games! Board games, video games, tabletop RPGs, if you've heard of it, I've probably played it. I own a PS5, PS4, PS2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo New 3DS, PC, and Mac. Can you guess where my paychecks have been going? 😅
I'm currently reading Babel by R.F. Kuang. My favorite book series are the Gentlemen Bastards by Scott Lynch, the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (have you seen the Amazon series yet??), every single book from Brandon Sanderson, the Dune series by Frank Herbert (LOVED the movie, can't wait for part 2), the Greatcoats by Sebastien Castell, and the Riftwar Saga by Raymond E Feist.
I'm ideally looking for someone that also likes to read sci-fi/fantasy, plays a decent amount of video games, or likes to keep up with the tech world. I've found it's difficult to keep up a conversation without having at least one of these things in common. 😁
Why did I put Pittsburgh in the title too? That's where I'm based, and on the off chance that you're a fellow Pittsburgh traveling or wanting to travel that weekend, feel free to reach out as well!
I am open to PMs on Reddit (my chats don't work well), but I also use and prefer texting, Kik and Discord. I would like to chat for a bit before we meet up so I can be sure you won't take my kidney. Thanks for reading! I hope to see orange envelopes from you soon!
