Mandatory quitting due to surgery
Post Body

So I have a surgery coming up in 23 days and need to stop any nicotine holding product 14 days in advance.

I smoke and vape. Normal it’s just 2 or 3 cigarettes per day and besides that a 600 puff vape lasts me ~4/5 days. So that would be a total of ~6 cigarettes a day maybe if you convert the vape puffs to cigarettes.

Now I have to stop in 9 days for at least 4 to 6 weeks due to surgery. And maybe I won’t start again, while I’m at it.

My thought about it; I’ll definitely stop anyhow because I don’t want to be the cause for possible complications during or after surgery.

But I’m trying it already a bit today and I must say it’s a bit tough ;p maybe also because I have tobacco and a vape in my house. So now I’m sucking on a straw for quite a while already 😂 I’m still allowing myself a bit these days, 1 or 2 at night, but want to get used to this so stopping would probably be a bit easier in 9 days.

Well, my question is actually… any great tips? Everything is welcome ;) Thanks!

This is actually how I quit smoking. Except I only had to stop 24 hours before surgery, so I didn’t really have to confront the withdrawals in the same way you do.

I’m not sure how intense your surgery will be, but mine was a minimally invasive procedure that knocked me on my ass for about 2 weeks. I was on pain medication for about week, tapering down as I needed it less. And I pretty much just slept for the first two days afterward. So honest to god, I hardly noticed the withdrawals because I was much more satisfied just taking my pain meds and sleeping.

So my advice would be to take advantage of this opportunity. You sound committed to not smoking in order to optimize your healing process. Use that motivation and take advantage of this situation.

I wish you success and I hope your surgery goes well.
